How does UpdateAI record Zoom calls that you host?
How does UpdateAI record Zoom calls that you host?

UpdateAI fetches your native Zoom cloud recording moments after your meeting ends. This approach is more secure than using a bot.

Updated over a week ago

For Zoom meetings that either you or a member of your UpdateAI workspace host, UpdateAI records your meeting through Zoom's native cloud recording feature. To take advantage of this feature, you need to connect your Zoom account to UpdateAI in the Integrations tab of your account settings.

We capture the Zoom native cloud recording as soon as it has been processed by Zoom immediately after your meeting. We do this automatically; there is no action required by you.

UpdateAI then processes the audio of that recording into text and runs our proprietary data models on top of that text to create our Smart Summary™️ insights.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO TURN ON THE RECORDING WHEN YOUR MEETING STARTS. Through UpdateAI's integration with your Zoom account, we will automatically turn on the recording when your meeting begins.

That being said, if you notice that Zoom is not recording your meeting, or you would like to regain manual control of the recording controls (like, to pause the recording), you may do so at any time.

What happens if my meeting contains multiple cloud recordings?

Sometimes in meetings it's necessary to start and stop your Zoom cloud recording multiple times. We understand. UpdateAI will handle this use case and stitch together those multiple recordings into your unified meeting recap.

Why we prefer using Zoom's native cloud recording for Zoom calls that you host?

  1. 🌟 Higher-quality transcription - Better video/audio bitrate leads to improved transcription and insights

  2. ⏯️ Easy control - The meeting host can easily start, stop, and pause the recording using Zoom's native controls. (No need to kick a bot out)

  3. 🚫 No extra participant - Eliminates the need for a visible recording bot.

  4. 🔒 Enhanced security - Provides a more secure recording environment.

What if you are not using Zoom or are not the host of the meeting?

In the following scenarios UpdateAI will not be able to record your meeting via Zoom's native cloud recording and will fall back to sending our virtual assistant (a.k.a. our bot):

  • If the meeting is on Microsoft Teams or Google Meet instead of on Zoom.

  • If the meeting is on Zoom but neither you nor any member of your UpdateAI workspace are the host of the meeting.

  • If Zoom cloud recording is disabled for your account. (Read more on Zoom.us about the prerequisites for cloud recording.)
